Dental Crowns

Restore your mouth’s function and aesthetics with metal-free, porcelain, custom-made dental crowns.

What are dental crowns?

Sometimes our teeth can become weakened by stress or decay. When this happens, you may need a dental crown. Dental crowns are tooth-shaped caps that are custom-made to fit over your weakened tooth to protect it from further damage and restore your smile.

Porcelain dental crowns are both aesthetically pleasing and functional as they protect the surface of a damaged or compromised tooth. Once bonded into place, dental crowns are relatively strong and durable and can between 5 and 15 years or longer with proper care.

A dental crown procedure does not require any downtime. However, we recommend you wait two hours before eating or drinking anything and avoid hard and sticky foods. You may experience some mild soreness and sensitivity for a few days, and this is normal. If any pain persists, please contact us to schedule a follow-up.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are dental crowns?

Sometimes our teeth can become weakened by stress or decay. When this happens, you may need a dental crown. Dental crowns are tooth-shaped caps that are custom-made to fit over your weakened tooth to protect it from further damage and restore your smile.

What is the dental crown process?

The process for getting dental crowns is relatively simple. Similar to veneers, it is relatively painless and done within 2-3 visits. During your first visit, digital impressions will be taken. In the same visit, temporaries will be placed. Your second and final visit will be to place the final crown(s) and permanently bond them to your teeth. Any final adjustments will be made to make sure your bite is comfortable and you are satisfied with the results.

During a free consult, Dr. Meden can discuss your desired results and assess your candidacy for dental crowns. He will also obtain digital impressions and create a digital mockup of your new smile.

Who is a good candidate for dental crowns?

You may be a good candidate for dental crowns if you suffer from any of the following issues:

  • Broken or cracked teeth
  • Large dental fillings
  • Severe dental decay
  • Stained, discolored, and yellow teeth
  • Misshapen teeth

Other individual factors that may impact your candidacy for dental crowns are having good oral health and hygiene. Dr. Meden will be able to assess if you are a good candidate for dental crowns during your free consult.

How much do dental crowns cost?

Porcelain dental crowns range between $1,100 to $1,200 (per crown). It’s important to consider a few key factors that influence cost:

  1. Quality of dental crown (material)
  2. Skill, training and experience of the doctor performing the work
  3. How many crowns will be done to achieve your desired results

When you choose Dr. Meden, you’re investing in quality work and quality results.

How long do dental crowns last?

Dental crowns made of porcelain can last between 5 and 15 years. Crowns on front teeth last even longer—potentially a lifetime! The lifespan of a crown depends on the amount of wear and tear imposed on the crown, a patient’s oral health and practices, and routine dental appointments.

I’m a perfectionist. I’d been through two sets of veneers over 20 years and decided to go all in with a full-mouth reconstruction of crowns. I sought out Dr. Meden based on his credentials and experience – but most importantly – the cosmetic results he’s achieved with others. After our initial consult, with his insight into what he could accomplish, I knew I was in the right place.

Over the course of several weeks, he rebuilt my mouth, including my bite. Details matter to him. When a crown fitting or shape wasn’t right to his eye, he was on the phone with the lab to have it remade. And when all was said and done, my smile just could not have come out any better, and the new bite alignment was the correction I’ve essentially needed my entire adult life. Genius.

His office staff, Angela and Bailey, are a pleasure and professionals in every regard. And the quality of Dr. Meden’s work (which is artistry) is second to no one in New York or LA, which I can vouch for firsthand. I’m lucky to have found Elite Smiles and look forward to continuing under their care. Dr. Meden is a perfectionist.
