Preventive Care

Achieve optimal oral health and avoid oral diseases through proper preventive care practices.

Importance of Preventive Care

Comprehensive preventive care is important to maintaining oral health and avoiding more serious issues such as gum disease, cavities, tooth loss, and more. Preventive care consists of both regular check-ups with your dentists and proper at-home care.

PROPER BRUSHING

Many people underestimate the power of routine brushing when it comes to their oral health. Brushing both morning and night prevents cavities and gum disease by removing harmful bacteria that eat your tooth enamel. When accompanied with flossing, brushing your teeth ensures major oral health issues are avoided.

Preventive Services

Dental Exams

During your routine dental exams, both your teeth and gums will be carefully inspected for any issues. If issues are found, such as plaque buildup or gum inflammation, they will be addressed during the appointment or a follow-up appointment if necessary.

Digital X-Rays

Digital X-rays will be taken during your routine dental exams. They allow your dentist to get insight into any issues not seen with the naked eye and allow them to properly diagnose and treat dental problems, such as bone loss and cavities.

CT Scans

CT scans are used to evaluate the jaw, sinuses, nerve canals, and nasal cavity. They give your dentist a 3D visual of your oral and maxillofacial structure and are used to properly plan treatment(s).

Cleanings

Regular cleanings prevent gum disease, cavities, and tooth loss by removing plaque and tartar that are harmful to your oral health.

Oral Cancer Screening

Oral cancer screenings aim to identify and catch mouth cancer early on so that treatment can be engaged. Oral cancer screenings are part of your routine dental exams and consist of checking the roof of your mouth, tonsils, gums, teeth, tongue, and inner cheeks for any abnormalities.

Sealants

Dental sealants are long-lasting, thin coatings applied to molars to prevent cavities by protecting them from germs and food. Sealants are preventive, unlike fillings, which are restorative, and can last up to 10 years.

Fluoride (Varnish) Treatment

Fluoride (or Varnish) treatment will be applied during your routine dental exams to reduce the risk of cavities and improve the health of your teeth. The treatment sits for 4-6 hours, then it can be brushed off.

Flossing Technique

Flossing reaches where your toothbrush cannot, which is why it’s important to floss every night after a day of eating. Flossing disrupts the formation of plaque which can eventually lead to gum disease when left untreated. Flossing is a simple way to prevent larger issues such as gum disease and tooth loss.

Routine Dental Exams

Alongside proper at-home care, scheduling a regular dental exam every six months is vital to maintaining good oral health. These check-ups can find issues that, left undiscovered, could lead to serious complications and expensive procedures.
